Minorca is the second largest of the Balearic Islands and is only a couple of hours by ferry from the larger and better-known Majorca.
The island's coastline is so richly indented that it forms a series of beaches and coves surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. To the north, the coves are narrower and the sand is darker, while to the south they are a little wider and so white as to dazzle the eyes. What are the most beautiful beaches in Menorca?

Menorca has over 200 km of indented coastline with beaches and coves. In the past, since the time of the Carthaginians, it was, not surprisingly, the perfect refuge for pirates. In the wide and numerous coves there was easy and safe mooring, while today, the same coves are paradises for sea lovers, to be discovered one by one.
Among the most famous beaches in Menorca are, to the north, Cala Algariens and Cala Morell and, to the south, Cala Macarella, Cala Macarelleta, Cala Turqueta and platja Son Saura with fine white sand.
Menorca's most beautiful beaches
Choosing the most beautiful beaches in Menorca is no easy task. Below we have selected a few, it is up to you to find the others.
Cala Macarella and the nearby, more secluded Cala Maracalleta are the typical spectacular coves of Menorca. Maritime pines and Mediterranean vegetation enclose a strip of sand protected by rocks. Macarelleta is also a favourite beach for nudists in Menorca.
Cala Turqueta is perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches in Menorca. The turquoise colour of the water is particularly intense, making it a popular and sometimes stormy destination.
Cala Pregonda is a beach unlike any other.
The sand is red and the vegetation around it makes one think more of the desert than of lush Menorca.
At Cala Morell, where the strip of sand is tiny, there are underwater caves and prehistoric burial caves at the water's edge.
Cala Porter is also easily reached by public transport, or on foot from the interior along the Camì de Cavalls.
Cala Presili is one of the fine sandy coves that are part of the Es Grau Natural Park. It is one of the best beaches for those who want to be alone at the seaside and enjoy the landscape of a virgin beach.

Beaches of Menorca
The beaches of Menorca should be explored inch by inch without missing any cove, sandy strip or cliff on the Menorcan coast. In the south coast of Menorca you will find the island's most beautiful beaches where the coves are surrounded by maritime pines and squeezed between the rocks that shelter them and where the sand is strictly white and the seabed often shallow. In the north, on the other hand, there are completely different beaches: the coast is drier and the beaches are less sheltered.
The eastern area of Menorca boasts a succession of virgin coves that are part of the S'Albufera es Grau natural park.
Cales Coves is one of the most curious coves in Menorca. It can only be reached on foot along a path that is not very easy. In the cove is the largest necropolis on the island with more than 90 burial niches excavated in the rock.
Sant Tomàs is a very touristy area of Menorca where there are golf courses and tennis courts.
From Sant Tomàs beach, however, you can reach the unspoilt Binigaus beach.
Beaches for children
Cala Mesquida, 2 kilometres from the port of Mahon, is a small bay and is perhaps the most child-friendly on the island.
Cala Galdana is an urbanised and partly equipped beach, also suitable for children.
In San Bou there are boardwalks and equipped areas for easy movement, while cala Turqueta has very shallow waters suitable for children.
