Santorini's Most Beautiful Beaches with Photos and Map

The island of Santorini is the southernmost of the Cyclades and one of the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean. This is certainly due to the landscapes and beaches that are so special. Santorini, together with the island of Milos, is the only island to rest on the remains of an ancient volcano.

The island is known for its villages and breathtaking views much more than for its beaches, which are different from what we imagine we find in Greece. Here are the 10 beaches you should not miss on your next trip to Santorini with a map

Most beautiful beaches

  • Monolithos Beach

Monolithos is located along the east coast of Santorini. The dark-coloured beach is less crowded and chaotic than other beaches and is surrounded by trees and vegetation. The shallow waters make it the perfect beach for children.

  • Red Beach

A unique beach, perhaps the most beautiful on Santorini. It is called Red Beach because of the red colour of the volcanic sand. It is located not far from the village of Akrotiri in the south of the island. It can be reached via a dirt road that starts just after the car park. Protected by red lava cliffs, it is the perfect place for snorkelling on the island.

  • White Beach

Surrounded by white cliffs that give it its name, the White Beach of Santorini is located right next to the Red Beach at the southern tip of Santorini. It is a small cove of black sand with large white pebbles and can only be reached by boat from Akrotiri or the neighbouring Red Beach.

  • Koloumbos Beach

This is the most isolated beach on Santorini and is located 10 km from Fira, the island's capital. To reach it, you have to walk along a path surrounded by thyme bushes; as you walk down the small road, you will fall in love with the picturesque landscape.

As the area is close to the island's crater, the water temperature is very high. It is a beach where naturism can be practised.

  • Kambia Beach

Not far from Red and White Beach, Kambia is a very quiet pebble beach. It can be reached either by sea or along a dirt road.

  • Kamari Beach

The Kamari shoreline is known for its black sand beach surrounded by the Mesa Vouno. The crescent-shaped Kamari beach offers the possibility of water sports and diving.

  • Mesa Pigadia

Ideally, one should visit this beach out of season, when it is not overrun by hordes of tourists. The beach is located near the lighthouse in the south of the island of Santorini.

  • Nea Kameni

From Fira, you can head for the islet of Nea Kameni, which lies in the centre of Santorini's caldera, one of the most active volcanoes in Greece. The island with its barren, almost lunar terrain offers beautiful beaches where you can take a swim and enjoy the benefits of the dark warm waters.
